Sometimes it seems like a moment for a photograph to be created, but we have to wait for that moment in this frame. I had been waiting for that moment for minutes, trying to make myself forgotten in the crowd. I think what I was waiting for was this woman with the red bag and umbrella. A Far Easterner protecting himself from the heat while the summer sun hits the Spanish Steps. I think what makes this square beautiful is the stairs... the palm trees in the background, the stone statue at the entrance of the stairs that reminds us of the world, and the bird resting on it. Tourists taking a break and occupying the stairs annoy the Italians so much that they consign this square to history. The Municipality of Rome prohibits sitting on the stairs because they have monument status, only transit walking is allowed. The beautiful thing about photography is; giving us clues about periods and dates with its documents. I captured this shot on a hot Rome day in 2013.
